TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My teaching philosophy involves creating a warm and safe environment for students to learn and express themselves. Exciting students about art, artists, creativity, and community is a central focus of my teaching. Creating a curriculum surrounding contemporary art and artists will guide students to relate personal experiences in a modern context. Teaching the artistic toolbox of skills, tool use, technology, and critique is vital in giving students the confidence to create and critically think. The combination of student choice and process-based learning is what I encompass in the art room.

TEACHING PORTFOLIO

This teaching portfolio highlights some of my best work completed throughout my participation in the Art Teacher Education program at Illinois State University (ISU).  This body of work demonstrates my competency in meeting Illinois Visual Arts Content Standards for Teachers. When I graduate from ISU I will hold an M.S. in Art Education and I will apply for a license to teach K-12 Visual Arts in Illinois.
